Against one of the most competitive cross country regions in the GHSA, Coach Eric Simmons took his Trojan squads to Sandy Creek on Saturday with a qualifying spot in the State Championships on the line. Reminiscent of the new NASCAR format, failure to perform well means the season ends. When the gun sounded, our Trojans took off.
Both teams finished third and have qualified for the State Championships that will be run at Carrollton High School on Saturday, November 7.
Simmons expressed how pleased he was after the meet. "We have a great effort from both teams today. For the women, Yassah Dudley ran a personal best of 21:54. She and Zavannah Brown (22:16) continue to improve during crunch time." Dudley finished 10th and Brown 16th to pace the Trojans.
Six of the seven Trojan Women ran lifetime bests. "For two weeks, we have talked about how close this race would be," said Simmons. "Our women made Carrollton proud today. To have six of seven run a personal best, what else could a coach ask for? I'm proud for all of them. We continue to fight from start to finish."
