Long ball lifts Lady Trojans in league opener

The Carrollton High School softball team rolled into region play in dominant fashion by belting Woodland, Cartersville in a 8-1 decision on Tuesday evening.

The Lady Trojans (4-1, 1-0 Region 7-AAAAA) used the long ball to start a fourth-inning rally with back-to-back home runs from Scout Jennings and Montana Dallas, which was followed by an RBI double from Allie Threadgill later in the frame to plate Sophia Sippola.

Threadgill (2-for-2, run, RBI), Jennings (2-for-3, HR, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Dallas (2-for-4, run, RBI) and Kate Albertus (2-for-4, 2 runs) led the offensive charge, while Olivia Fannin tossed a complete game in the circle to earn the win, yielding one run with six strikeouts.

Carrollton travels to region rival Villa Rica on Thursday for a 5:55 p.m. first pitch.
