The Carrollton High School boys' tennis team capped off its improbable run to the Region 7-AAAAA Tournament title with a 3-0 sweep of Woodland, Cartersville on Wednesday night at the Rome Tennis Center.
Having to replace nearly their entire lineup from last year's state runner-up squad, the young Trojans registered wins from No. 3 Harrison Rogers (6-4, 6-3) on the singles line, while the pairings of No. 1 Ross Martin/Will Brown (6-2, 6-3) and No. 2 Noah Kamishlian/Nicholas Hawkins (6-3, 6-0) also won in straight sets.
The Trojans will be the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Class AAAAA state playoffs with the first round having to be completed by Friday, April 20.
Kell girls 3, Carrollton 2: The Lady Trojans had their region title hopes come up just short in the setback to the Lady Longhorns on Wednesday evening.
Carrollton picked up a pair of wins in doubles play with No. 1 Katy Nixon/Caitlann Arant (6-0, 3-6, 6-2) prevailing in a three-set battle, while Kate Harvey/Christen Arant (6-4, 6-1) won in straight sets.
The Lady Trojans will be the No. 2 seed for the Class AAAAA state playoffs and host the No. 3 seed from Region 8 in the opening round next week.
