Carrollton tennis squads wrap up No. 1 seeds

The Carrollton High School girls' tennis team wrapped up the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Region 7-AAAAA Tournament on Thursday evening by sweeping East Paulding in a 5-0 decision.

After knocking off Kell in a 3-2 nail-biter on Wednesday, Carrollton now takes the No. 1 seed into the league tourney, which will be held on April 10-11 at the Rome Tennis Center.

In Thursday's sweep, the Lady Trojans recorded wins from No. 1 Sonya Ivashchenko (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Alli Hodges (6-0, 6-1) and No. 3 Audrey Best (6-0, 6-0) on the singles line, while No. 1 Katy Nixon/Caitlann Arant (6-1, 6-0) and No. 2 Madison Webb/Christen Arant (6-1, 6-1) also won in straight sets in doubles.

 In Wednesday's battle with the Lady Longhorns, No. 1 Ivashchenko (6-1, 6-3) was victorious on the singles line, while No. 1 Nixon/Caitlann Arant (6-2, 5-7, 6-0) and No. 2 Kate Harvey/Christen Arant (7-5, 6-3) won barnburners in doubles play.

The Lady Trojans wrap up the regular season with non-region tilts against Woodward Academy on Monday and McIntosh on Tuesday for Senior Night leading up to spring break.

Carrollton boys 5, East Paulding 0: The Trojans also swept on Thursday with wins from No. 1 Aidan Coleman, No. 2 Matthew Harvey, No. 3 Nicholas Hawkins in singles and No. 1 Ross Martin/Will Brown and No. 2 Adam Rakestraw/Harrison Rogers in doubles.

Carrollton boys 5, Kell 0: The Trojans followed up the win over East Paulding by concluding its match against the Longhorns, where they swept all five lines to also secure the No. 1 seed for the Region 7-AAAAA Tournament.
