The Carrollton High School golf teams delivered a pair of strong performances for back-to-back title runs at the Area 4-AAAAA Tournament on Monday at Oak Mountain Championship Golf Club.
The Lady Trojans shot a 283 to defeat second-place Cass by a whopping 75 strokes, while the Trojans turned in a 327 to edge second-place Riverwood by eight strokes in the 10-team event.
The Carrollton girls were led by senior standout Taylor Gray, who captured area low medalist honors for a second straight season behind her round of 87, while Morgan Gray (95) and Abigail Duke (101) rounded out the top-three scorers.
The Carrollton boys were paced by a third-place individual finish from Cole New, who shot 6-over-par 78, while Mario Perezcassar III (80) came in seventh, Luke Pezold (82) tied for eighth and Jacob Shadrix (87) tied for 15th.
Hogan Ingram of Rome was the boys' low medalist with a 3-over 75.
With their victory, the Trojans have now qualified for the GHSA Golf State Championships for a fifth consecutive season.
The Trojans will compete at Planterra Ridge Country Club in Peachtree City for the Class AAAAA state championship on May 21-22, while the Lady Trojans will hit the course at Braelinn Golf Club in Peachtree City.
"We've really worked hard to build a consistent program and that's why you're seeing the results that we have now," Carrollton boys' head coach Kurt Hitzeman said. "Our kids, more than anything else, have learned to compete like Trojans and get the most out of their abilities."
